Goals of the GMOA

In order to enhance & improve the welfare of match officials throughout the 32 counties we intend to address the following issues:

  • The reformation of the punishment scale for the assaulting of match officials.  We will push for an automatic life ban for any clear case of unprovoked assault on a match official
  • The election of an independent spokesperson to represent all match officials at congress
  • A complete review of match expenses for match officials nationwide
  • As a vital part of the match day team all umpires should have county board passes so they may attend club games without cost
  • An enticing training programme to encourage new referees to enlist
  • An open and transparent system for the appointment of officials to fixtures
  • The covering of physiotherapy costs for the referee
  • The covering of clothing/equipment costs for all match officials
  • The possibility of a referee having a seat on the central council of the GAA

The above list is not exhaustive. These are our initial goals & the achievement of these goals will be at the core of everything we do in the coming months. As an evolving organsiation it is clear that many other items will be added to this list in the coming months. If you have any suggestions relative to this please email secretary@gmoa.ie
